There's a lot of reasons to back it up . Eddie can throw in some new squeals , Al can do a different fill , etc. Dave might just be trying something slightly new , in his own way ?
Totally agree with you bro 100% he has the right to do that. BUT it's not working for him.

He probably figure that out in a few of the tunes , which is why he went back to a more "normal" approach ! LOL
Then again he's Diamond Dave . He can improvise however he wants ... Just don't piss Eddie off

Dave is a cool mofo, and was never the best singer vocally we know this... he has a cool voice which has attitude behind it. Just don't know why he's trying to sing like this... this high register is killing it for me... just trying to be honest. If he's having problem with some songs ... chinatown, dance the night away, they should be cut from the set. As they did last year with blood and fire. Replace it with DOA, TAKE YOUR WHISKEY HOME easier songs for him to sing. And it's not on every song he's doing this... it just the same ones over and over. UNCHAINED/ROMEO DELIGHT/HFT sounded great from stone.
You do have a good point .
I guess it might stem from the fact that Dave feels a sense of "duty" , about performing certain songs ?

    Who knows ...
Hey , what happened to the "I'll Wait" vid you had up here a minute ago ? I wanted to hear it

I've always liked hearing that song live . There's a bootleg cd i have from the 1984 tour in San Diego . The band does a really good job , Eddie's solo is magic .
The 2007/08 tour had several pristine versions of "I'll Wait" too . I like how Eddie follows some of the keyboard lines on guitar , like he's been doing on "Jump" for quite some time .

The mood of the song has always captured me . I think it's very powerful when played onstage , although i still adore the recorded album version .
Eddie's solos have this certain X factor to them . He's not blowing his wad , but still has a keen melodic sense .

Hi guys, first post here. I've waited 33 years to see a Dave fronted VH and was blown away. We were about 10 meters in front of Ed and the sound was great. Ed's tone was ferocious and Wolf's bass was up there but by no means dominating from where we were. A mate of mine was sitting central up the back and he said the sound was pretty good up there too. It's an outdoor gig, so you'll never get a perfect mix, but it was loud and proud and VH delivered a great set. I don't do vids at gigs, but here's a few pics I snapped. I also met the infamous Doug Steele and James Ryan.
