    Rush is ridiculous

"Closer to the Heart" just came on & i couldn't help but laugh at Geddy shrieking nonsensical, Peart driven lines like, "The blacksmith & the artist..."
or "Living on a lighted stage, approaches the unreal, for those who think & feel..."

These guys make Britney look like a poet:

    "Oh baby, baby...how was i supposed...to know?"

    Exclamation

    Sorry, bro.
But I like Rush - music and lyrics.

A complete different approach if you compare to our beloved Van Halen. But Rush has its value - you should know that.
Wolfgang Van Halen - "I love being a bass player. Its just me and Al a groove section. Just boom, boom, boom, and were good". GW
    ---
Edward Van Halen - "What is next for Wolf is the next record and the next tour. Hes no different than I am. Music is his life. If he goes back to school, Ill probably go with him. GC

Unchained- Did you replace you bong water with rum soaked Egg Nog?

I would say when many lyrics are broken down they are comical, but even more so when the band delivers them so earnestly.

I also like Rush. I think that they kick ass. They are great musicians and Exit...Stage Left is a live masterpiece.

UG!!! What up man??? Why you beating on RUSH?? Now your comparing Britney to RUSH??? I think they are kick ass band. You should go see them and change your demented ways Nothing tongue in cheek about Neil's lyrics. Sometimes odd and from left field, but they always seemed to fit the music.

Now go listen to RUSH until you figure it out..

I think IronicA has hijacked Unchainedguitars' ID. First suggesting Deep Purple was better than Led Zeppelin, now accusing some of Neil Peart's finest lyrics of being stupid? Who would post such nonsense?!

I guess i'm loyal to Canada's other big rock band, Triumph!

Seriously, i like Rush, but the Professor (peart) needs to lighten up & remember "it's only rock 'n roll."

I own Signals, Moving Pictures & Permanent Waves, plus the big DVD set.
My ex loves Rush & i love her (still), so she'd kick me in the balls for dissing them.

But is Rush not slightly ridiculous, on some profound level?

In spots...I think the robot voice on "Cygnus XI" or whatever that tune is was an idea that did not stand the test of time. But "Closer to the Heart?" Those are some of the most brilliant lyrics ever! Or how about...

    Each of us
    a cell of awareness
    imperfect and incomplete
    genetic blends
    with uncertain ends
on a fortune hunt that's all too fleet

    Ooohhh, man! That's GOOD!

Sounds like bad poetry from an M.I.T. freshmen.
