Do YOU feel old after 45?
I just turned 45 today, and I was just wondering if anyone here ever felt that fleeting feeling of mortalityNOTWITHSTANDING, I STILL have the immature mentality of a 21-year-old college fratboy, BUT.... ANY takers?

sorry, i actually am 21 now.
thus far i've never had that feeling of mortality that you speak of, but I have feared for my life, or been afraid that going through with something might put my life in danger. (i'm not sure if that differentiation will make sense to everyone, but to me there's a difference)
Granted, I am quite cautious, and in some respects a little over protective of myself/body, so I could really use a bit more risk in my life.
I suppose, along similar lines, I do ponder my future occasionally. but that usually just worries me and makes me wonder if I've made the right decisions for both my own happiness and the happiness of any future family I may have. I think I play it safe a little too often for my own good, and I shy away from both difficult decisions and the difficult work that most people could consider "character building"

I'm 39 and in some respects, yes, I definitely feel old, but I also don't feel that it's a bad thing. I've had some close family members pass away in the past year and I feel I now really understand the life cycle and my place in it. And my hair is thinner, I wear glasses, I get muscle cramps in my back when I jog, my ears ring at night, and I realize that I really am of the same substance as clay, and I'll fade back into the earth one day...and why not?
At the same time, does this mean I feel ready to sit around knitting? Nope! I've got my Anthrax/Megadeth/Slayer tickets for October 1st and got myself a cool Anthrax "Spreading the Disease" T-shirt to wear, and I can't wait! My friend that plays drums says he wants to form another band and play original music, and I'm excited about at least attempting to get that going. I've got guitars and amps and pedals and a little recording setup like I just dreamed about as a 16-year-old, like I'm in my own 5150. It's exactly because I know I've only got 30 or 40 years left on this earth that I may as well put the pedal to the metal and have fun and not worry like I did as a 20-year-old.
Realizing your mortality doesn't mean you have to get depressed about it.

1st of all, Happy Birthday!
Do I feel old? Well, it depends.
Since I re-started to do physical exercises, I'm in good shape. And it's helping me on my drum playing as well. But I realized I'm not the same in terms of speed; I'm more of a long distance runner now. But that's ok, man! And I also became more patient as a driver while dealing with many other drivers around me. Only aging would made me feel calm when surrounded by idiots.
Life is short - enjoy it! Immortality is just for your soul!

Yes, happy birthday!
I just turned 42 earlier this month, and I HATE IT! Ever since my 40th birthday I've felt like a piece of defective equipment. I feel like I'm running on half the energy I used to have, and I'm not just FEELING it, I'm showing it. Weight gain, wrinkles...and pardon my going down the TMI road, but NO sex drive at all. WTH is that?? Its like the hormones are shutting down all of a sudden. And nothing I try seems to help any of it, which is frustrating as hell. Mentally, I still feel/think/act like I did in my late 20's, early 30's, but my body won't let me BE that. Its scary, actually.

Amen!
Sing it from top the mountain sister!
My 43 year old brain believes the body should be able to do the things it did before.
My 43 year old body knows it can't. It has stopped listening to the head case upstairs.

Happy Birthday, KTC5150!
I'm only 17 years. One day I will reach that age and how is truth ... I only know one thing: when it reaches 50 years, people are slower and sometimes even too quiet ... When in 60 years, people have the mentality like a young child ...

I'm gonna be 39 in September, and i just can't believe how quickly life is suddenley going by.
I wish i had some sort of new-age/earthy perspective on mortality, but i'm terrified of dying, to be honest.
Everyone seems to say, "Well, i've got another 30 more years or more," but they don't take into account heartattacks, strokes or diseases like cancer.
The older you get, the easier it is to bite the dust.
When i was a kid, a teenager, it felt like life was forever.
Turning 40 seemed like a million years away.
I was reading, today, about the 20 year anniversary of SRV's death (in August).
I couldn't believe 20 years went, just like that!
My sex drive has dropped, considerably, too.
When i was 14-18, i was horny about 99.9 percent of the time.
Today, i'll get horny for maybe a week, then have a month of zero stimulation.
Maybe i'm just stressed & it's taking some weird subconscious toll.
The key is to focus on THE NOW.
I get ahead of myself, and think, "Oh shit, in ten years i'll be 50!"
Your thirties & forties, you can still be considered semi-hip & land some younger babes.
You can be a MILF or a "sophisticated, slightly older man."
When you hit 50, though...
Your entering the home stretch!

Another thing that is annoying, is the "tech savvy" youth of today.
My 9 year old nephew was laughing at my cell phone, the other day.
The kid's 9, yet he's got a freaking iPhone with ten million applications.
I have a standard Verizon "gimme the cheapest phone you got" model, which works perfectly fine...AS A PHONE.
He's like, "Oh my God, look at your phone!"
I feel like saying, "Dude, when i was your age, my phone was a damn pay-phone, it only cost me 10 cents to make a call for my mom to come & pick me up."
I'm so glad i grew up in the eighties, appreciating every little thing i got.
My internet was GFTPM & Hit Parader magazine.
My youtube was old school MTV.
My Xbox was Atari & Colecovision.
Instead of internet porn, which leaves nothing to the imagination, i had "Private Lessons" on Cinemax.
And i was happy to have that!
I was perfectly content.

You really mean a 60 years old person has the mentality of a kid?
If so, you're wrong.
