I also listen to heaps of different kinds of music, and John's more rooted in rock... But Beyonce and Alicia Keys? I really don't get that angle.
The angle is Soul music-which gave birth to what Led Zeppelin and Van Halen did. I love Soul music and the fact is Beyonce and Alicia Keys are great! It's not metal, but it is still great. Erykah Badu, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings,Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Ray, Common, D'Angelo, Angie Stone, and yes, Beyonce and Alicia Keys are extensions of the brilliant Soul music of the 60's and 70's...I love Luther Vandross and Anita Baker too...I listen to Erykah Badu as much as I listen to Floyd,Zeppelin or Van Halen-brilliant is brilliant no matter how you slice it

John Mayer's influences may not be that obvious at first but when you actually listen to the songs and dissect each overdub and fill you hear the blues influence. One day John Mayer is going to release a blues album and he going to cut loose and actually play some real blues like he did with the John Mayer Trio!

Fair enough then Garbeaj, that is a good explanation

What I don't get is why guys like Mayer and Clapton don't just play blues when they always say they will? Since the Yardbirds, Claptons been complaining about playing more poppy stuff, yet he continuelly does it... What's with that?
Same as John, I've seen him play the blues, and he's great... Why not go in that direction more?

They're sell outs, IMO

I agree Simon, I never listen to the radio, because everything that's on it these days gives me the shits! It's hard to avoid though, because it seems that these days everyones playing that crap on the iTouch's at school... Ah well, I try my best.

Not yet, Ravenna.

But I heard the VHII guitar design will be a must have item!
