Thumbs down Kings of Leon - S**t happens!

Pigeons force Kings of Leon to abandon concert

Rock band the Kings of Leon have been forced to end a concert early after pigeons defecated on them from the rafters of a US venue.

The rockers abandoned the gig in St Louis after three songs when bass player Jared Followill was hit in the mouth and face by pigeon droppings.

Drummer Nathan Followill later apologised to fans via Twitter, saying "it was too unsanitary to continue".

Their publicist added the band found it hard to carry on after the incident.

"Jared was hit several times during the first two songs. On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn't deal [with it] any longer," said Amy Mendelsohn.

"It's not only disgusting - it's a toxic hazard. They really tried to hang in there."

Opening acts The Postelles and The Stills had also come off stage after their sets were covered in excrement.

The Grammy-winning band are due to continue their tour in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday evening following the incident at at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.

They are currently promoting their fourth album, Only By The Night, and are due to visit the UK later this summer.

Nashville brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared make up the group, along with their cousin Matthew on lead guitar.

Fans who were at the curtailed concert will be offered refunds.

Kings of Leon Cancels Its St. Louis Show After Playing Three Songs Because of Bird Shit

By Annie Zaleski, Sat., Jul. 24 2010 @ 12:45AM

Kings of Leon canceled its St. Louis show on Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater after playing just three songs. We've not officially confirmed why -- although the prevailing rumor at the moment is that bird shit is the culprit.

After the Nashville band finished "Taper Jean Girl," the third song of the set, it walked off stage. According to Hardy, the house lights stayed off for a short while and then went up, and then someone came to the stage and said that "due to concerns over the band's safety, we are canceling the show. Please file out in an orderly fashion." RFT photographer Erin Kinsella estimated it was "3 to 5 minutes after the stage went dark" that they made the announcement. She also noted that security was then beefed up near the stage.

Adds Hardy: "Everyone was convinced it was a hoax."

Mass confusion ensued. The crowd started booing and chanting, "Bullshit!"; () Hardy said the parking lot was full of honking horns and the sound of bottles being broken.

The official @rftmusic Twitter, of course, started exploding with angry messages, tips, perplexed reactions - and rumbling about "pigeons." In fact, Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill tweeted the following:

@doctorfollowill So sorry St. Louis. We had to bail, pigeons shitting in jareds mouth. Too unsanitary to continue.

@doctorfollowill Don't take it out on Jared, it's the fucking venues fault. You may enjoy being shit on but we don't. Sorry for all who traveled many miles.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PIGEON INFESTATION FORCES KINGS OF LEON OFFSTAGE EARLY IN ST. LOUIS

An infestation of pigeons living in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO, forced the Kings of Leon to walk offstage after three songs last night. Even though opening bands The Postelles and The Stills came offstage complaining of getting riddled with large amounts of pigeon excrement, the Kings of Leon decided to carry on regardless. The band felt it would be unfair to the fans to cancel the show at that late moment.

"I'm surprised they stayed on for as many songs as they did," said Andy Mendelsohn of Vector Management.
"Jared was hit several times during the first two songs. On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn't deal any longer. It's not only disgusting -- it's a toxic health hazard. They really tried to hang in there. We want to apologize to our fans in St. Louis and will come back as soon as we can."

When the band arrived earlier in the day, the venue warned management that there had been a significant pigeon infestation problem with summer shows over the years, but they were doing all they could to fix it.

"We couldn't believe what The Postelles and The Stills looked like after their sets," said Jared Followill.
"We didn't want to cancel the show, so we went for it. We tried to play. It was ridiculous."

Kings of Leon are headed to Chicago tonight to perform at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre as scheduled.

Damn - what a bunch of weirdos these guys from Kings of Leon are. Their music suck so much that even the pigeons agree with that statement in order to start to s**t all over their heads!

This band is on TV every time I turn it on these days. Sounds very run-of-the-mill to me, but everything current does. What's weird to me is the singer plays a Gibson while the lead guitarist plays an Epiphone version of the same guitar. Shouldn't that be backwards? And what's a band like this doing playing Epiphones, anyhow? Ticket sales a little slow? I agree with the pigeons.

Had this been 1978, and Ted Nugent was on that stage, those pigeons would have disntegrated, thirteen seconds into his set.

Sad pigeon story:

Last week, as i crossed the street, i saw a pigeon dragging itself to safety, with half it's body & one wing, completely flattened.
It was bleeding from the beak, probablly the victim of a "hit & run" driver.

I didn't know what to do.
I felt i should crush it's head with my boot, just to put it out of it's agony, but i couldn't bring myself to do it.
I just left him there, on the sidwalk, bleeding...

Daily I see lots of pigeons around the area I work - it has like 10 or 12 big buldings here and tons of pigeons concentrated in 02 of these office blocks. And it's possible to see lots of food fight from these flying creatures. Some do lost fingers or get bleeding wings. Sad stuff.

Indeed it's sad when any animal suffers pain and injury, and I wouldn't wish it on any living creature.

That being said, pigeons always freak me out a little...they're rats with wings, and I've seen them charge people in NYC, back when I lived there. I'm always a bit wary when there are alot of them around....Hitchcock's "The Birds" wasn't pigeons, but I still think there's some potential there. Maybe it's their beady little eyes...
