well, most likely all of you by now have heard about the demise of rol's guitars.
well, apparently, they are making all fan sites (like this one) remove any VH logo or 5150 logo. so what's your opinion? i think it stinks, but maybe he's trying to protect his assets for something positive in the future.

Or maybe Edward is just a dickhead with too damn much money.
I can see a crackdown on those profiting from these trademarks and copywrites, but a non-profit fan site?

This my friends is where i get off the Van Halen Fan Train, and i am left with questions.
What the hell happened to the Van Halen fans being the best in the world?

Why do they keep handing us nails to put in their coffin?

Why do we even care anymore about a band who gives less than two shits about the fans that made them what they are?

The band is not retired (they should be) but this fan is taking an early retirement from the Almighty Van Halen World.

After all these years i am convinced that they suck major goat balls as people and i have no support for folks i don't care about, no matter what any future album sounds like or includes. thats it for me..............................

He certainly is cracking down on all this. I'm just glad I haven't opened the ClassicVanHalen on-line store yet! I would have certainly been sued.

Although, I was just reading at vhforums that we will be able to license the use of the logos for free as long as we are not making any money. THAT ....I am ok with. I don't make squat on this site....in fact, I'm losing money...but that's ok with me, it's worth it, because even though alot of bad shit has gone on lately I still LOVE VAN HALEN and I listen to their music every single day.

Licensing to me is their form of censorship here. As soon as you get licensed to use it they think they can tell you how and when to use it or revoke the license.

I love the hell out of my Van Halen music and that will never change, but i certainly will not persue any future release with my money, they have enough of it already.
But nothing has chnged then really, because i haven't LOVED Van Halen since the day Eddie went to Claudio's garage that day in 1985,lol.

yeah, now that you can use the logo's if you get a license, it's not as bad, i suppose. but cat's right, it's still cencorship. hopefully some good can come of this, as in, if this had to be done for him to protect his trademark, then i suppose it was necessary. i'm sure all will be forgiven if this allows a green light for a reunion album. however, what are the odds of that happening? not very big, i'm afraid.

Censorship... it can't happen here.

I don't know what Ed is trying to accomplish here. IMO, he's shooting himself in the foot. With the path he and the band have taken, the fan sites are the only things that still hint at Van Halen's existence. WTF is up with this?

Speaking of censorship, I recently picked up the Zappa album, "Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention", which was sort of a stab at Tipper Gore and the 'porn-wars' that went on during the 80's surrounding lyrics. this is the warning label that Zappa had put on the album:

WARNING/GUARANTEE

"This album contains material which a truly free society would neither fear nor suppress.

In some socially retarded areas, religious fanatics and ultra-conservative political organizations violate your First Amendment Rights by attempting to censor rock & roll albums. We feel that this is un-Constitutional and un-American.

As an alternative to these government-supported programs (designed to keep you docile and ignorant), Barking Pumpkin is pleased to provide stimulating digital audio entertainment for those of you who have outgrown the ordinary.

The language and concepts contained herein are GUARANTEED NOT TO CAUSE ETERNAL TORMENT IN THE PLACE WHERE THE GUY WITH THE HORNS AND THE POINTED STICK CONDUCTS HIS BUSINESS.

This guarantee is as real as the threats of the video fundamentalists who use attacks on rock music in their attempt to transform America into a nation of check-mailing nincompoops (in the name of Jesus Christ).

If there is a hell, its fires wait for them, not us."

I laughed my ass of at that. best warning label ever, IMO. Then, on the inside liners it had the First Amendment, talking of how "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech". from 1787(?) or somewhere thereabouts (sorry - poor knowledge of US history). Then underneath it was a quote from a US senator from 1983 or 1986 which read "...If I could find some way, constitutionally, to get rid of it, I would."

And these are the people we elect to lead us into the future? YEESH, does that worry me...
"I am not one of those weak-spirited, sappy Americans who want to be liked by all the people around them. I donít care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it. My affections, being concentrated over a few people, are not spread all over Hell in a vile attempt to placate sulky, worthless shits."

Yep, and they're usually Democratic, too.

Small wonder why Tipper decided not to run for the US Senate--she probably saw Zappa's ghost in a dream warning her not to run....or else!!
