Okay, now TVLand is banning their Dukes of Hazard re-runs, due to the general Lee (or whatever
their car was).
This is why i'm becoming less & less interested in being a proud Liberal.
Both sides just go too far in pushing their agenda.
I always figured Kid just used that as a nod to Lynyrd Skynyrd, anyway.
I know some people view it as offensive, but just don't look at it or associate with people
that use it.
I'm tired of these witch hunts by the media & on social media.
Not just the flag, but anything remotely not PC.
My niece wants to change the world, is planning on a college related trip to India.
I made a comment about how that is the last place i'd want to go, if i was a young woman,
and she told me my comments were incredibly offensive.
This kids are so idealistic & naive, today.
This world is brutal & fucked up.
I'm sorry.
You can't change it.
I've become the crusty, old blue collar uncle!
I used to be the "cool" one.![]()
Once something is deemed offensive this is pretty much how it's gonna end. It's nothing new.
Same reason Amos & Andy or old Charlie Chan movies don't air much anymore. More recent... some South Park and SNL episodes don't air.
I just watched a Starsky and Hutch episode where they were in black face. I couldn't believe it.
It some cases it's overkill, but in others (the flag) I don't think it is. It's basically the equivalent of flying a Nazi flag. It's that offensive. Blacks were lynched and killed for decades, and most of the people doing the killing were flying those flags. I don't think white people understand how offensive it is.
It's never gonna be completely removed. That would be pretty tough to do. I was just making the comparison that it's associated with hate, like Nazi material. Keeping stuff like that in the public eye isn't gonna help with race relations or help us move forward.
When I watched that show in 1978 I had no idea it was hateful. I just thought it looked cool. It sends a confusing message to kids as well.
