I want to name my book:

GET OUT AND PUSH: The burden of Eddie Van Halen on future guitarists

It's going to be about how Ed changed the game in the late 70's, causing terror & alarm
for other players & future players.

"Sinner's Swing!" sounds so simple, yet it's so difficult.
The way he closes the main riff almost seems too soon or out of time, yet it's perfect.
It always confused me, the timing thing.
Then he adds all those chugs in between & it's like, "Wait! Where am i in the riff?"

I used to try and play along in my school days.

You had the solo, Doug, all the notes sounded right.
I wanted to hear you bang it out in time with the tune!

Ha ha,no time. I learned that main riff just before taping. And I didn't really reference this song, so it was all done by memory. I'm in themiddle of writing/recording an album, being a husband, and working full time. VH tunes are not really on the front burner these days.

    Cool! Thanks Doug!

I'm with UG, it sounds simple but it's anything but. That timing is just awkward. I'll give it a go, though.

How does he make that chirping sound?

It doesn't sound like string scrapes, maybe he's pushing the string into the pickup.

Yeah, it's gotta be that. In time, that probably aint easy either.

I think I'll just make it "a few FW months"... with this and Mean Street. I still need to give the solo and beginning of Mean Street a try. I think I'm ready.

Doug's fingering works well for me, actually.

The little finger is the key to connecting the riff, at least for me.

There's a high "chirp" early on, then a low "bump, bump" post solo.
Fucking Eddie and his crazy sounds!

No matter what i do, nothing makes that sound.
