No doubt, his sound on WACF is much more defined.
Yeah, good call on "You're no good."

The Bass seems louder on that track, plus it sounds sharper.
Sounds like Mike has a slight phase or flange happening on his Bass, with
    that one.

    Agreed, on both points.

I love that part in "Bottom's up!" right before Dave sings, "I'm singin..."
Ed, Al & Mike do that "dah dah, da, duh, duh, duh."
Ed plays it with a really swinging right hand, it sounds so sexy.
When i would play it, it sounded like Metallica chugs.

"Hang em high!" has another thing, where people would play the intro wrong.
Ed would add that extra note in the riff, people would miss, cus he played
    it so quick.

Given the fact that the other songs don't really seem that low, I have to think they did this on purpose. If the bass was turned up I can see it would have the potential to ruin the swing parts Ed was doing. Ed was on low notes with less distortion, a lower volume bass might've worked better. It's possible, anyway.

I don't know what Mike was using but I've always loved that sound on YNG.

Haha, yeah, a case could be made his rhythm is more complicated than his solos. I don't think most people realize this, or understand how tough they can be. I've been delving into Drop Dead Legs, and we discussed it on the links. That rhythm, like others, is hard to get a grasp on.

I love that part too. Given my track record it would most likely come out the same.

    Thumbs up

Kick ass stuff. Nice playing there. Such a nice feeling listening only to bass and drums here!
Wolfgang Van Halen - "I love being a bass player. Its just me and Al a groove section. Just boom, boom, boom, and were good". GW

Edward Van Halen - "What is next for Wolf is the next record and the next tour. Hes no different than I am. Music is his life. If he goes back to school, Ill probably go with him. GC
