I have been on a huge Kiss kick lately and I have been reading every Kiss book I could get my hands on. I've read Peter's, Ace's, Behind The Mask, Lydia Criss' which is amazing just for the pictures in it. She put together a coffee table book with over 1000 photos and many of them are from the early days and some out of makeup in the studio and just in a lot of social settings. This might be one of my favorite Kiss songs and videos and it just show how incredible they were on stage in the mid 70's.

KISS had a lot of good gems .

The world populace doesn't care about the same things , we , guitar geeks do ...
A catchy tune will make memories . A flashy guitar lick will be outdated by Mon. , by an Asian prodigy who's all of nine yrs old .

I'm finally reading this book and it's fucking amazing!

I'm only 160 pages in, and it is so thorough and interesting and completely in depth.
I'm up to KISS recording the debut, and my God, the pictures!
These vintage pictures of them making the album in 1973.
What the hell guitar was Ace using, it looks like a Vox or something?
I always assumed he was using a Les Paul, but he's got something completely
    different.

I love how Gene looked so demonic in the makeup, yet in the studio he looks
    like this sweet, smiling dude.

This book is blowing my mind!
Ken Sharp, you've got my vote, that's for sure.

I bought this book super cheap, used on Amazon. It's great!

The guitar is an Epiphone...they are pretty ugly to me. They play pretty well though. Ace can pull off any guitar though, because he is one of the coolest looking cats of all time.

The fact that Ace and EVH both played single cut LP Jr's has me dreaming about finding one somehow.

    Don't forget Leslie West!

West got one of the best tones out of those things, in conjunction with his amps.

Looked like Paul Stanley could afford a nice LP black beauty, while Ace was reduced to an Epi. LOL!
I loved Gene's comment about taking the subway, and the Bill Aucoin stuff was amazing.
I never knew Bill went to college in Boston and worked for WGBH (major public broadcaster in Boston).
Neil Bogart sounded like a forward thinking dude as well.

Can't wait to get to the "Hotter than Hell" period, which is a fave era of mine.

I think Gary Moore played an LPJ in Thin Lizzy, or maybe it was a Melody Maker, pretty similar guitars.

    You're right!

I have a live Lizzy DVD from the late 70's, and Moore has the LP JR.
It always amazes me how great those things sound in the right hands.
It's a very punchy sound, like a LP crossed with a hotter Strat.

Is that the Sydney Opera House gig DVD? It's a cool gig, although Brian Downey was too wasted to play, so they had to fly in another drummer. Phil looks really wasted too, but seems to get through the gig OK. Gary just blazes.
