    Computer, Wimpy question.

I just inherited a really, really nice laptop/ultrabook, that was purchased one year ago, but never used (by a senior).
It's an i5 HP Folio 13 Ultrabook with a Solid State drive and backlit keyboard.
    It's only 3 pounds, too.

My problem is that it has the 3.0 USB port, which won't recognize any of my 2.0 usb drives/mice, etc.
    Are these ports backwards compatible?

Luckily, there is a single 2.0 hub, but i need to use that for my wireless mouse.

Why can't i get the 3.0 to accept my drives?

I really love the laptop, as it's like a macbook pro minus the Apple programs.

All I know is that Dad keeps telling me to get a computer with USB 3.0 ports.

I have a 3.0 hard drive that works on my computer with 2.0 ports. Sometimes when I connect my iPod to my computer, a message comes up recommending me to put it in a 3.0 port (but I don't have one any..?).

There must be some sort of way to make the backwards compatible. There's too much stuff out there that can't just be left behind and not used.

The laptop is pristine/new, but that one port seems DOA.

I read online that, yes, it should accept my 2.0 flash drives.
I tried re downloading the drivers, but nothing works.
I do need that port, since this ultrabook only contains 2, plus the HDMI and SD card reader.

Have you thought about maybe getting some external ports if worse comes to worse?

Yeah, i might do that, though i hate the clutter of wires and plastic external bits.

    The SSD is fast, though!
I can't imagine going with anything but a solid state, in the future.

I need a new lap top.. I might get one just before I go back home for summer break.

    Is this one Windows 8?

    No, thank God.

    It's Windows 7 64 bit.

Make sure you get an SSD laptop, because the boot up time is like instant.
The only drawback is they have smaller storage (i went from my 500 GB HD to a 128 SSD).
But i keep most stuff on an external source.

This will be like my 500th laptop in five years!
