I wouldn't be surprised is Reverend Al isn't setting Dave up for a royal fucking. At this point the band is caput. I'll continue to watch the Roth Show on the News Desk, but really there isn't much to talk about. Enjoy!

Hey, I heard Diamond Dave is looking at pornography! Please! Dr. Roth! Come back! Your thoughts?

Ha! Good to see you back again, if for only a paragraph.

Interesting thought on Alex setting Dave up. Dave said in his book that at the MTV Awards Alex had told him to go wild and do his thing, and he suspected it was a setup. Maybe that's why Dave said, "I talk to Alex every day, and he's on the same page." He's letting you know he wouldn't be saying all of this if he thought he was the only one.

Of course, nothing to worry about, because accusing someone of treating their "Maserati-style talent like a fucking lawn mower" is no big deal. He was probably talking about his volleyball instructor, anyhow (according to some people around here ).

On how long they're taking...someone asked John Paul Jones why it took Led Zeppelin five years to release the O2 concert DVD. JPJ said, "Five years is five minutes in Zeppelin time, so I'm surprised we got it done this fast." If five years is five minutes in Zep time, I wonder how long it is in Van Halen time?

No,I said Pete DID have stage presence but it wasn't anything to go crazy over.I never even uttered Daltrey's name once. And I said this all about four times already! This will be the last.

But I don't think Eddie's behavior is new, or that there has been a lack of action solely because he had surgery, which is what you implied. I'm sure if EVH responds, he is going to claim that he is still in recovery (and Alex might even back him up, publically), but he didn't even write new material for ADKoT, so why are you giving him the benefit of the doubt?

lt's been going on for so long, and you ignore all the past behavior and say, "it's the surgery he had", when clearly this was happening way before his surgery.
So, you believe CT, As Is, YAYB, HBSD, TTWN all were written back in the Club days? Give me a break. I'm sure that Ed and Dave have not been in the same room together and written a complete song from scratch. That's what I think Dave meant by saying he and Ed havent written a song together in 30 years. And I didnt imply that his surgery was the SOLE reason for a lack of activity. Haha, that was the very last thing I said and just threw it out there as an afterthought. But whatever, if people think having a meltdown over this is gonna help, so be it.

I'm not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. I'm just not going to jump to conclusions over one interview. As per typical human nature, most people are choosing to completely laser in on the negatives of the interview while at the same time ignoring the positives. I'm not saying you are, but there are a lot of people who seem to think Dave came out and said, "fuck off Ed! VH is dead and buried!" which of course he didnt. More than anything, I think Dave is just frustrated, and most likely so is Al. Ed is probably an ass to deal with, but atleast Dave is saying he wants to really write new material and keep touring. We are in wait and see mode, nothing more, nothing less...i

Haha, well truth be told, PoP and I more often than not agree on a lot of things. Just not about the Who!

Where am I freaking out? I commented repeatedly that I just think this is how the whole reunion has been between them, and this interview just let us peek behind the curtain.

Your post definitely implied that you think the reason EVH is inactive is because he had surgery. But in reality, he has put in minimal effort throughout the reunion years, and it has nothing to do with his surgery.
It can't be "Van Halen" without Roth, any more than it can be "Van Halen" without Eddie.

So on the ball-bustingest site on the Internet, I'm the most annoying? Hmm...I'm conflicted in how I feel about this.

Okay, you said Pete moved around but it was "nothing special," which I'll equate to "no charisma." 1234 is the one who said Daltrey didn't engage an audience like Mick Jagger, but I say Mick's guitarist wasn't doing big mid-air splits and sliding around on his knees, so it was probably easier to be the focus.

Back to the subject at hand.

Yeah, because coming at me with CAPS and highlighted phrases is calm. It "implies" maybe not "freaking out", but shall we say, a sense of urgency on your part. Not sure why my post elicited such a reaction. But I agree, you havent been getting too excited over this whole interview, atleast not until my offhanded comment about Ed's surgery which, again, was at the very end of my original posts.

I dont pretend to know the reason for Ed's inactivity. That's the whole point. But to completely dismiss his surgery and its after effects as being a possibility for atleast part of the current inactivity is folly.

Yeah, Ed getting his playing chops back in tiptop shape for 2012 and the recording of that shitty album, ADKOT, suggests "minimal effort." We should all wish our own efforts in our endeavors were so minimal. Not saying I dont think he could be doing more, because obviously he could, but I'm not going to be so dismissive about the year VH was having until his surgery.

I really do hope Ed gets after it, and matches Dave's and Al's intensity as far as what they hope to accomplish, but who knows? Maybe Ed just doesnt have that fire in him anymore...

To be fair, I believe Keith Richards has basically been embalmed for the past 30 years. But, yeah, Daltrey more than easily tips the scale in favor of the Who, with Pete and Moon doing their thing. Stones are all Mick visually. Charlie Watts is also a statue to watch.
