1234Over started a thread on this in YouTube videos, too, although I think it fits well here, too.

I think Mitch Malloy sounds good, but he looked a bit too much like an Abercrombie & Fitch model. Your singer should be a good looking guy that gets the chicks, but when he's two feet taller than the rest of the band and looks THAT much better, it looks odd. This is why Pete Best was ejected from The Beatles.

this is the first i've heard of these demos .
we all know Mitch was jamming with VH , as was Sass Jordan and possibly David Coverdale .

neat to hear this tune . not great but not bad . i detected a fair amount of Hagar-isms to his delivery . when added to the fact that Cherone was supposedly trying too hard to sound like Sammy (and that he was going on direct instructions from Eddie) , it seems that even though many VH fans don't want to admit it .... EVH liked the vocal stylings of a certain Mr. Haggar .

now who (besides EVH and Mike) has the demos with DLR , from the failed reunion attempt in the mid 90's ????
"There's a little bit of Van Halen in everyone ..."
    "Who Dares , Wins ..."
"Van Halen was never about the singer ..."

What i find interesting (if what the article states as true) is that "management" vetoed the bands pick of Malloy in favor of Cherone. Isnt all the stories we hear of Eddie being a little dictator when it comes to the band? who could have the power to overrule Eddie?

Might as well call this guy Mitch Hagar.Sounds just like Hammy.Glad they didn't got that route.Gary, wasn't any better but,we had heard the Hammy voice for 9 years,no need to keep it going.

I dunno, i liked this guy's voice better than Hagar.
Either way, they sold out to the "Hair Metal" Gods, by bringing in either.
You'd never see Jimmy Page replace Plant with some spandex clad, high haired....
    oops! Bad example.

Jimmy Barnes was the anti hair metal singer.

And then they brought in Cherone from Extreme.

I was listening to a lot of Barnes' solo work and his stuff with Cold Chisel. Some of it is okay for pub-rock, but then there are a few good gems in there. It makes me wonder how he would have fit in the band had Eddie decided to let him in.
    Ready, Eddie!

Dude, you gotta hear him belt it out live.

VH would have become a very different band with Barnes, but also a more mature, ballsier band.
Hagar & Cherone dumbed the band down to "hair metal lite."
    I craved something grittier.

I wanna hear Ed step out of the confines of that late 80's/90's sound.
He could have made it a true solo record.
