    Rate ADKOT!

OK, so it's been out a week.
Long enough to tell the world how you rate it, star wise, out of 5, I reckon.

    Me? 4.5.
I simply cannot get enough. It's played first thing in the morning, as soon as I finish work (and during, if the truth be told) and last thing at night...
    Greatness has been achieved.

    Proceed, my lovelies.
    Iro wants to know.

5 all the way! I'm already on record as stating that it did the unthinkable for me: surpassing my beloved WACF as the greatest album ever. It is still shocking for me to say that but I frickin LOVE this record!

I rated it 4 stars, which is very, very good.

5 stars are a rarity & only a handful of records deserve such an honor:
WACF, VHII, FW, Powerage, Appetite, Highway to Hell, Physical Graffiti, Rocks, etc.

Jeez, how could you NOT give it a 5? How many albums come out this day in age that actually are BETTER than material from the back catalogue?

ADKOT is right there with those.

Actually it most definitely smokes GNR and ACDC haha.

    Agreed.

It's like a true grading policy. A for exemplary work, B for above average, C for average, etc. For 5 it has to be perfect, or rather more than perfect as perfect would mean that it met expectations in every way.

But that's not saying that ADKOT is a bad album, it's far from it, it's a DAMN GOOD album. I'm trying to be objective about this, too. It's nigh perfect. I think it'd be a 5/5 if it were maybe released in '85 rather than today?

As of now, I'm thinking either a 4 or 4.5, for even a score that high an album must really do something for me.
    Ready, Eddie!

I'm going to give it a 4.5 also....

Only because, although I've listened to most of it over and over, and I dig all the tunes on it, I'm not stone cold familiar with every single one enough to give it a full 5. Just like I wouldn't really speculate on the album before I'd heard it, though many here on the board were worried after hearing Tattoo, I haven't heard the last 3 tunes enough to pass judgement on them. Like I said, I'm workin' on it....I'll get back to ya.

It's a great album, but i'm rating it in accordance with ALL the great albums.

ADKOT is not better than WACF, VHII, VHI or even Fair Warning.
ADKOT is a fantastic record on it's own, a brilliant back to form album, but it is not
as good as the first four VH records.

People need to keep in mind that "new" does not automatically equal "better than the classics."

    I rated it a 4 as well.

It's a 5 star album to me in terms of the way it's currently moving me, in terms of VH knocking it out of the park and exceeding expectations, and in terms of being just what the doctor ordered for this reunited band and its fans at this time. (I rated it 5 on Amazon because it needed to be rated 5 stars there.)

Looking at it more clinically and analytically and taking it out of its current place and time I give it four stars.

I flew the WACF flag for 30 yrs based on the FIRST time I ever heard it, and I'm basing ADKOT the same way. It has nothing to do with being "new" but everything to do with how this album sounds for me. Just like WACF has never diminished with time, I dont see myself ever growing tired of this record. It is simply that good.
