Well the main reason people wanted Dave back is to have a reunion of the CVH lineup. Wolf is not Mike, so that's points off right there.

The other reason people wanted Dave back is so we can have some new music, but we have nothing after almost 4 years! It's like having an expensive car but not being allowed to drive it. Would you be satisfied with that?

Everybody knows, or atleast should admit, that if Mike was around, Dave would not be. That is a simple truth. Wherever Mike is, Sam will be. With the schism that has formed between the bros and Mike, it wont work. That ship has sailed. I've said it before, I'll gladly take an Ed/Al/Dave/Wolf VH over Ed/Al/Sam/Mike any day of the week.

I have read most of Ace Frehley's book (he was always my favorite) and he is just such a cool guy, with tons of heart, and so opposite Gene Simmons.
I agree, but i can tell part of him still really cares about both Gene & Paul.
It's gotta be the same with Ed & David.
I remember, after Ed was diagnosed with cancer, Dave was the first guy calling with information about
    specific doctors or specialists.
I think the most important aspect is that Ed & Dave were there in the begining, before fame came knockin.
Same thing with the original members of KISS.
Sammy Hagar & Tommy Thayer weren't there, ya know?
There are deeper bonds, whether they acknowledge it or not.

Look at Aerosmith, with Steven & Joe!
So much love AND so much hate, at times.
Steven even mentiones he was completely jealous of Joe's first wife, Elissa.
Those guys had that bond together, then she comes along.
Remember some of the early comments Roth made about Val?
I think it was a similar thing.

Sorry, but I don't think I agree 100%. Yeah, I'll take a VH mk. IV over Van Hagar any day of the week, but I don't think that if Mike were around then Dave wouldn't be. Yeah, Mike and Sam were buddy-buddy, but I don't think they're a package deal. The schism came from Mike and Sam playing together outside of VH. I think if Mike were to have been playing in VH just as Dave was getting in the picture, I don't think there would have been a problem. There's no beef between Dave and Mike, even if Dave vaguely refers to him as "the bass player."

However, NOWadays, there's not much of a chance of Mike coming back.
    Ready, Eddie!

    I agree with this.

It's not like if Ed invited Mike back that Mike would go "can Sammy come too?" and Ed would just bow down and say "sure". That wouldn't happen. It's illogical. Also, Ed wouldn't go out of his way to make Mike happy. He'd be lucky to even get invited back into the band.

My point was if Mike was still around in the first place, Sam would probably have been there as well. Sure, now that Dave is back, yeah if Mike got invited back, no way would he be stupid enough to have it be on the condition that Sam come with.

I still disagree. Maybe Ed wouldn't have been supposedly inspired by Wolf to do the "reunion", but Ed and Al still call the shots and if they'd want Dave and not Sammy, then they'd have Dave and not Sammy.

Yeah. If they want Roth, Mike does what he is told. I really couldn't imagine them regarding MA's opinion about DLR being back in the band AT ALL.
It can't be "Van Halen" without Roth, any more than it can be "Van Halen" without Eddie.

I think with Mike involved, Sammy would weasel his way back in.
Sam would flatter the brothers, say it sounds great, the doors would open...
I still believe Ed & Al think Hagar is a better fit than Roth, despite them working with Dave.
I firmly believe Eddie is into THAT kind of singer.
He changed with 5150, and you never got that sort of classic sound again.

Mike would be in, then Sammy would follow.
Mike has no love for Roth, he gives Dave zero credit.
Read the forward to Sammy's book:
"We were finally a band! We had become musicians! We had never sounded better!"

You're overlooking the fact that MA signed away any and all rights to using the VH name. If he even wants to be in the same building, it's on ed's terms.
