Cherone performed so well with Extreme, and he was always such an energetic frontman.
I think the record after III, would have been more "back to basics" and rocking.
Poor Gary was left to warble over "Josephina" and "Once."
I think there was potential between both camps, but Eddie gave Cherone weak material.
I think Gary Cherone is a weenie, and should never have been the lead singer of Van Halen.

On a different note, does anyone remember if the Van Halen brothers came out and said that the music was better with Cherone than it was with Hags, after they released VH III? I don't remember much about how they were presenting themselves then.

It can't be "Van Halen" without Roth, any more than it can be "Van Halen" without Eddie.

They were presenting themselves as Tuba Players.

I think we should wrap the thread up with some FINAL PREDICTIONS.

    Mine...

The new record is released in January 2012.
A single is released to coincide with the record (or thereabouts).
North American Tour (no World Tour) kicks off in the Summer of that year.
    Extended dates are added.

I think they referred to Gary as their, "soul brother."

I expect a new single in January, maybe even for New Year's Eve. Then a record in Feb. or March. A tour starting in late spring, like May.
It can't be "Van Halen" without Roth, any more than it can be "Van Halen" without Eddie.

Single in January. Album late Feb/early Mar. Tour starts in April/May.

They come to Washington State in midsummer which means they play the Gorge Amphitheater for the first time since 98 and the first time ever with Dave! OK, I'm a glass half FULL guy.
