Wait a sec.....
Didnt EVH proclaim that were a real band now that we have a real singer when sam joined?
I guess real bands write real lyrics.

He did say that, and i never understood why he would say that.
Mike felt the same way, judging by his portion of Sammy's book.
What the hell was wrong with these guys?
How can they think VH became better with the addition of Hagar?
Those early VH records are fucking sonic masterpieces!
You hear them today, and they still sound fresh.
Well, from what I remember, he had been playing violin long before the Sammy days.
But I really do think a lot of his fiery playing took a back seat and for some reason his playing sounds a bit canned. Dated. I clicked on my radio and I had to listen to the last bit of Right Now and I realized that it sounded like a typical 80s song whereas a lot of the material from the Six Pack still sounds like you just unwrapped the record a few seconds ago.
Maybe he dumbed down his playing on purpose.
Ready, Eddie!
They think or thought that VH became better with Sam, because they think "better" means better.
That is, if Sammy could sing in a key that Roth couldn't - and hit notes that Roth couldn't, well...
He must be "better" than Roth.
Ed could now write songs without being held back by Daves' vocal limitations.
Plus, Sam was willing to record things - take the band in a musical direction - that Roth fought.
Remember Roth fought Jump.
That was all win in the VH camp as far as the boys were concerned.
They did well commercially, so they felt that their view was validated.
I knew a couple of fans who felt the same way.
To many of us however, all of this just showed that the VH camp had little clue about what all the qualities were that made vh, VH.
But that is our perception & opinion.
Maybe THEY think the Van Hagar era, represents what VH is all about, to them.
You have to take it in context.
They said all this when they were in Sammy's company.
The tactic was to diss the era Dave sang and (self proclaimed) micro managed. To get at Dave through the time/music they inhabited together.
Sammy is here, you are not. The music we did with you sucks.
I don't actually believe they meant it for a second. It was purely a psychosocial reaction to Hagar being there instead of Dave.
Take for instance when Gary joined. There were no Hagar covers on that tour. Mike even took responsibility of personally singing choice CVH songs.
Achilleslastand - You come off as attempting to sound funny in every worthless post of yours...If i was you id be seeking a refund from the dane cook school of comedy as its clear to me you got ripped off....
Oh dragon dildos.
I did not know that.
I was convinced, somehow, that they dropped the Van Hagar on that tour.
My brain isn't much of a source to tap for the Hagar years. Even less for the brief Cherone era.
This is exactly why I don't post at the Links.
Thanks for fixing my post, though, VAiN.
