Sometime in 2000, I contacted Lee Garver of GMW Guitarworks and asked him to build me a replica of Dweezil's VH II replica...
Six weeks later, I received this masterpiece, an exact copy of Dweezil's guitar (minus the "Zappacaster" logo on the headstock)!

Very cool.
I wonder how GMW gets around the whole "copyright/trademark" thing.![]()
Dino, it was made by Lee and painted by Dan Lawrence back in 2000.
GMW was making VH clones until ELVH served them (and just about everybody else in the industry it seems) with the now all too familiar "cease and desist" order- just prior to the release of the Charvel Art Series.

There was a similar guitar posted on eBay many years ago, listed as an "EVH Holy Grail". I'm pretty sure it was not a GMW though.
I saw the auction before I had any knowledge of Dweezil's guitar and the auction description made no reference of Dweezil ... just EVH.
I'm thinking maybe someone who was knowledgable of Dweezil's guitar made it (or had it made) and sold it to the seller, who had no clue what he had.
The auction really stuck in my mind all these years because of the painted graphics on the headstock and because it was VERY well done.
I wish I knew who had built it.![]()
