I've been a Mars Volta fan for a while now, but didn't bother looking into At The Drive-In because their genre is Post-Hardcore. I was an idiot. I browsed some of their stuff a few months ago on Youtube, and got their last album, Relationship of Command from San Fran. I've started formally listening to it, and it's great. It's like a rawer, heavier Mars Volta. Except unlike the Mars Volta, they've cut out the boring crap that pollutes most of their albums.
Very unlike modern post-hardcore bands that I can't really stand.
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez deserves more credit as a song-writer and musician. How many successful projects, bands and collaborations has he been a part of? Not to mention that he has 60 or something solo albums, and I think he's only in his late 30s or early 40s.
Listening to the mighty VH live, 1981, in N.C.
"Hear about it later" just about made me cum in my pants.
Dave sounds beyond cool, Eddie sounds beyond brown...
All four of them simply CRUSH it.
YES! That's the show i'm listening, too!
Aerosmith did a similar thing in '75, playing a jam before launching into their first song of the set (S.O.S.)
The VH jam reminded me of that, in a way.
Eddie absolutely smokes!
I loved the way he nailed the "Sinner's Swing!" solo (he crushed that last tapped note)
Very cool intro to, "So this is love?"
This upgraded show is a keeper.
Roth sings lower on this set, and he sounds soooooooo good.
He does the high yelps perfectly, but he sings these tunes in the right range.
Today, he tries to sing in this higher range that he can't reach.
I don't understand why?
Now I need to hear that Aerosmith jam!
The yelps in this one are great.
He really lets them rip.
I think the best sound quality boot I have is from Quebec 1984 (or 85?)... I wish that there was something from 80 or 81 with that quality.
They need to put out a box set!
That intro jam floored me. Absolutely caught me off guard. Especially since I had just read the interview where Ed was like "Nah, we don't jam... Me and Al do, but Mike isn't really locked in with us, and Dave hates it".
Then I hear THAT.
