  1. I was watching "That metal show," where they listed the Top 5 greatest Sabbath riffs.
Tom Morello was the special guest, claiming, "You guys always get it wrong, and i'm at home, yelling
at my TV! But now i'm here to represent, as one of Sabbath's biggest fans!"

So, at that point, i'm thinking, "Nice, Tom's gonna think outside the box & pick some forgotten gems."
What does he pick, you ask?
"Iron Man, Sweet Leaf & N.I.B."

    What a bozo!

Even Eddie Trunk & the other guys seemed kinda baffled.
  2. I have an issue of GW somewhere with guitar players saying their favourite Sabbath songs.
Scott said "Wars Pigs", Yngwie said "Neon Knights" and one of the guitarists from Mastodon said "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". I can't remember the rest.

I think that "Dirty Women" is an under-rated classic. There's some great riffs in there.
  3. Scott Ian has said this before, too, on that VH-1 metal show:
    "The first FIVE albums..."
Meanwhile, he made a career out of the "Symptom of the universe" progression.

"Technical Ecstasy" has one of my fave Sab tunes, "Backstreet Kids."
After that great, first tune, the album just goes straight downhill, though.
  4. What's the setlist?

Well, at least he's not promoting the post-Ozzy era! Haha.
Zakk's the bigger idiot, he just named his son Sabbath!
But yeah, you can't leave out Sabotage. Why is it that every great band has their own six pack?
  5. Just DL'd a Soundboard boot of Sabbath in '74, the California Jam.
Let me know if you want the link, it's got some other tunes on there, since it's pre-Sabotage.

Scott Ian is an idiot, btw.
In the latest issue of Metal Hammer, he claims, "The first five Sabbath albums are all you need."
Idiot leaves out their masterpiece, Sabotage!
Fortunately, Zakk Wylde says, "Sabotage is THE Sabbath record, above all others."
  6. Most of the finger-picking stuff he does is really intricate, I still can't believe he came up with that.
In a way, him and Mustaine in the same band was just unfair and couldn't work.. Too much firepower.
It would be like having Michael Jordan and Shaq on the same team.
But having said that, one part in "Enter Light" really got my attention.
Had Cliff not died, then they would have replaced Lars with Dave Lombardo...
So if Dave hadn't of been kicked out, you could have had a line-up of Hetfield, Mustain, Burton and Lombardo. That either would be chaotically amazing, or wouldn't have worked.
  7. I remember reading, early on, that James had some instruction in classical guitar.
I think that's where you get the Fade to Blacks, Fight Fire with Fire & To live is to die (also Battery).
He can fingerpick, which comes from learning that stuff.
  8. I prefer RIP, but each time I listen to Peace Sells I find something new and it never seems to get old.
Dave was always a sophisticated guitarist, but what I find weird is James coming up with stuff like the "To Live is to Die" intro.
He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to listen to the kind of music to come up with that.
In a way, it's strange how anyone came up with anything haha.
How did Jimmy Page come up with all of those compositions of varying genres?
How did someone like Tony Iommi come up with such heavy riffs with only jazz and blues as an influence?
What was going on in Eddie's head to come up with stuff like tapped harmonics, "Mean Street" intro, "Cathedral"... These people are just wired differently to everyone else.
  9. I still think "Peace Sells" is the best Megadeth album.
Wake up dead, the conjuring, my last words, black friday...
There is so much raw creativity happening on that record, despite the drugs.
Listen to that intro to "My Last words...."
How does one even come up with something like that?
  10. Maybe because he couldn't solo they thought that he shouldn't be the guitar player.
That's kind of ridiculous though, because I'd take his slower solos over Kirk's.
I have a good right hand for riffing and stuff like quick gallops and down-picking is easy, but I suck at soloing.
Those early Metallica records really had some sneaky rip offs on them, "Sweet Home Alabama", "Tom Sawyer".. I wonder if there's more.
Some parts on Peace Sells sound a bit dated, but RTL doesn't at all. Well, I guess the intro to "Fight Fire With Fire" might sound a bit too medieval for some, but I have nothing against it.
