  1. Hopefully when I get over to the US I can get a copy of "Comfortably Numb" the biography, and learn more about what happened.
Song writing credits always confuse me, with some bands it's the music, with others it's the lyrics.. What the hell?
I don't get people who listen to music for the lyrics.. Why not read poetry instead?
  2. Gilmour got shafted on a lot of the credits.
I've always believed the music to be the most important part, unless you're Bob Dylan.
Waters gets the majority of the writing credits, when it's obvious he couldn't compose
a lot of the musical portions of said songs.
Gilmour has his musical stamp on so many songs simply credited to Waters.
  3. Yeah, my Dad's always talking about how Waters couldn't do it on his own and was just boring with his droning vocals.
I don't really get it with Pink Floyd though, did he get all the writing credits just for coming up with the lyrics, and the music was ignored?
Because I doubt he came up with all of that music all by himself.
  4. I def agree.
Gilmour was the musical soul of that band, he relayed Water's message for him.
Water's had the concepts & the great lyrics, but David made them works of art.
It always bugged me when Roger used to dismiss the other guys:
"It's my bloody idea, my bloody album!"
Then you listen to his solo albums, and it's really lacking that beauty you get with Floyd.
  5. Yeah, he's not the best, but I get why my teacher was so infatuated.
He sounds so out of the box for someone who uses such basic scales.
It kinda of annoys me now when people go on about Roger Waters, and just ignore what Dave did.
Dave said that he didn't think that Roger would be able to carry on the musicianship of Floyd without the other guys.
    I kind of agree.
  6. I do love Gilmour's style, but i would never think of him as the best.
I think a guy like Eddie, with his innovation, new sounds & virtuosity, cast too big a shadow.
But Gilmour used what he had & made it sound very impressive.
He had good ears and a smart approach to what worked, musically.
  7. I definitely want to watch it before I leave.
I remember two years ago or so my guitar teacher saying "To me, David Gilmour is the greatest lead guitarist of all time. Just his phrasing, ideas and perfection is un-touched".
I thought he was crazy... Now I understand what he meant.
  8. I kinda wanna see that new DVD of the making of, Wish you were here.
The older i get, the more i appreciate Gilmour, it seems.
The guy uses blues scales, yet his phrasing makes them sound so exotic.
I like the phaser he used, as well, especially on that album, very light but adds this weirdness.
  9. Had a dream yesterday that I was listening to a CVH song that was a complete rip off of "Dogs".
They just compressed the song to about 4 minutes.
    I was devastated.
  10. I was awful at anything with a bat.
In my freshman year we did baseball and then cricket (horribly boring sport that is very popular here), and I was way too unco-ordinated to do any good in them.
This was when I started getting big, so I was very clumsy.
One time when we were playing Cricket with a substitute teacher, he got excited when it was my time to bat, thinking I'd hit the ball to a pier a few miles away. Boy, was he disappointed when I couldn't even hit the ball..
I too was good at volleyball, and regret not sticking to it.
I was good at serving, blocking and spiking, and this is when I was shorter and much fatter.
Now I'm much taller, jump much higher and have long arms.
No one really plays it here though...
And I really don't understand the world's obsession with NFL.
