Eddie (http://Eddie) and Alex Van Halen joined country artist Kenny Chesney on stage during his Saturday, June 17 appearance at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. They performed two songs "Jump" and "You Really Got Me" with Kenny handling the lead vocals in the former and lead guitarist Clayton Mitchell singing the latter. Check out video clips of the performance:

"You Really Got Me": YouTube.com (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j62xY5YCV_g)

Former VAN HALEN frontman David Lee Roth who hasn't seen Eddie Van Halen for years has implied in recent interviews that they have been talking again and their management are involved in putting the group back together.

Roth said: "I see it absolutely as an inevitability. It would be very simple to put together. I definitely see it happening."

They were there just for the free booze. I had to laugh at the reviewer calling them "Heavy Metal".

It has just been announced today, June 19, 2006 that country singer Kenny Chesney will be the new lead singer for the rock band Van Halen. This will be the fourth singer in an ever rotating lineup of frontmen. Says Edward Van Halen "You just can't find a better singer on the planet than Kenny. We have been fooling around at my home studio 5150 a lot recently and it was magic"!

At least Ed looks cool unlike Dave the human jack-o-lantern!
This is sad news, indeed. I hereby cancel my subscription to giving a flying fuck about Dave or Ed. Sell-outs!
My God, Kenny Chesney of all people. Maybe EVH will get the hard stuff back in his system & jump on stage with the legendary Kid Rock.
Can't wait!

I noticed that, too. To me, Edward Van Halen had some fun there.
I can't help, but think he needs to get a new look; maybe a new hair cut or something. He looked and sounded strange to me.

Ed thinks the ratty shoes look cool, i'll bet. He thinks it's rock 'n roll.
I like the open, button down shirt, though. It looks like the Edward of old.
I always thought Eddie had a cool style (maybe not the jumpsuits he used to favor, though.)

WTF is Chesney doing to Ed in that pic, though?
My God, he's like attempting to dry hump him while he's playing.
What is it with these guys?
On "Live without a net" Sammy can't keep his hands off Edward.

Wow and they say that women are a bunch of critics when it comes to looks ....who cares what any of them look like it's the sound that matters.. and that my dear friends is a weak extract from the old days on all acounts sadly enough .....But on the otherhand what else can you expect...the boys are no machines they are human and yes they will get older and change just as any mortal .. It's an illusion to believe that they can give the fans the same sound as from their youth...everything that they will produce together maybe ( and that's a big maybe, I don't believe in it ) in the future will be a weak copie from the past I believe. And I know that a lot will say "That's better then nothing "...but I don't believe that for one minute.... As soon as they would bring out stuff and it doesn't sound remotely close to the six pack everyone will be dissapointed and jump all over them and say that it was better if they called it a quits and just gave us a box- set.
IMO the best move for them would be to give the fans a box-set and call it a quits for good !.

Very well said, Jane. I agree.
The more i think about a reunion, the more i ask myself if it really would be worth the 350.00 ticket?
Do i really need to experience Ed play the originals as sloppy as he did in 2004? It's not even his fault, his heart is just not in it anymore (revisiting the older stuff, i mean)
Do i need to listen to Dave go hoarse, insisting on hitting those unreachable high notes?
I can sit in my air conditioned apartment & watch the US Fest, and remember them as the kings they once were.
I say release the archives, the way VH was meant to be heard, and i'll be one happy camper.

Yeah Jane, unchained and I are just a couple of old bitties arguing over their appearances! I do happen to like the "Dave looks like a jack o lantern" comment though!

I don't know if Ed's heart isn't totally into playing the old stuff unchained. He was supposedly playing I'm The One on the 04 Tour at the backstage meet & greets for the fans and did it justice. But by showtime he was too tanked to play 'em right. I just wonder IF Dave were standing on stage with him again if that would spur him on.

I would like a box set/DVD of the good shit and call it a career for those guys.

I heard a live version of "I'm the one" with ballerina Gary Cherone, and Ed played the riff at about half-speed.
I know that stuff is hard, man, believe me i know...but it's just strange to see him struggle a bit with his own material.
Ya know, i'm glad you appreciated my 'jack-o-lantern' comment, Sum, because another member (i'm not stating any names, but think of an animal) p.m.'d me with the comment that "i'm just a JERK-o-lantern!"

Man, that happens to be the gayest shot i have ever seen since Diamond Dave mounted the huge, inflatable microphone on the EEAS tour.
Chesney & ed could use that as the box-cover for some guy on guy porno.

I'm a fan of REAL country guys like Waylon, Willie and Merle Haggard. I grew up on that stuff, and to see Ed & Al sit in with true icons like those would make sense. Kenny Chesney, however, is of the post-Billy Ray Cyrus school of Calvin Klein models posing as country singers.

While I say that, Kenny Chesney is as big these days as Van Halen ever was. I saw some TV special he did, and the guy's selling out stadiums like U2! I don't get it, but different strokes.

The classic country you mentioned would probably not appreciate showboat playing ... although it is a bit more accepted in bluegrass; some of those bluegrass musicians are really incredible at playing their respective instruments; and they are almost always playing acoustic.

The good thing is that Ed is out in the public playing. Kenny Chesney is much better than not seeing these guys at all and wondering if they still want to play music. The two songs sounded poor, yet I attribute it primarily to the vantage acoustics; being in the crowd with a handheld camera, left much to be desired. Ed definately needs to go wireless though; on a few occasions he wanted to move around - only to be yanked back back by his guitar cord; but maybe he just plugged in to another's amp, which may have been arranged for a guitar player who doesn't move around so much.

Ya know.....it's great that Eddie and Alex are out there playing. That is a good thing. They are playing DLR-era Van Halen, so thats a good thing too. Whats so fucking weird is that they are out playing with Kenny damn Chesney!?! I mean...c'mon! Not that Kenny Chesney is bad at what he does or anything (pop-country...or whatever. People like it, I guess)....it's just....what the hell do Eddie and Alex Van Halen have to do with Kenny fucking Chesney? The whole thing seems a bit strange with Dave doin' bluegrass, then all of a sudden you have Eddie and Alex out with Kenny Chesney. Hmmmm......:57:

This is what people who vomit when you say "bluegrass" haven't been told about. Bluegrass was designed to be nothing but acoustic shred. Bill Monroe would comb the mountains looking for the most outrageous players he could find, then they would play conventional folk songs everyone knew but at two or three times the original speed, with each musician stepping up to play the most intense solo they could conjure.

His greatest find was Earl Scruggs. If you've read this far...Earl Scruggs and Eddie Van Halen are a lot alike. Before Scruggs, people mostly played chords on banjo. Scruggs was the first to use three fingers (like fingertaps?) and play what's called three-finger rolls: very fast, high triplets -- like Eddie. He also came up with a sort of D-tuna where he could drop individual tuning pegs a whole step or so as he played.

I got into this stuff for awhile a few years ago. You've got to get around worrying if it'll "turn you into a hick" to listen to it and just listen to the musicianship.

And now back to the metal.

If VH does, in fact, get back on the road they're gonna need Mr. Roth to pull it off with some integrity. I believe at this point, the fans will not settle for anything less than that original lineup.
